Get started

  1. Open the webpage you are authorized to capture.
  2. Select Oak Donut from the browser toolbar.
  3. Choose Capture Full Page.
  4. Keep the target tab active while Oak Donut scrolls and captures it.
  5. Review the finished image and download the available output files.

Oak Donut restores the page’s original scroll position after completion, cancellation, or a handled error.

Capture a scrolling panel or embedded app

Some content scrolls inside its own panel instead of with the page — a product-options dialog, a settings drawer, an order list, or an app shown inside an online-store admin. A full-page capture shows the page behind it. To capture just the panel:

  1. Right-click inside the panel.
  2. Choose Capture this scrollable area.
  3. Oak Donut opens with the panel outlined on the page. If a different area is outlined, use Previous area or Next area.
  4. Choose Capture This Area, then download the result as usual.

If the panel belongs to an app from a different website than the page — for example, an app displayed inside Shopify admin — Chrome asks once for permission to access that app’s website. Nothing is downloaded from it; the permission lets Oak Donut scroll the panel. If Oak Donut closes while Chrome is asking, open it again: your selection is kept.

Area capture requires Oak Donut 0.7.0 or later.

Before requesting support

Try these steps first:

  1. Reload the webpage and wait for it to finish loading.
  2. Confirm that the target tab is active and visible.
  3. Close developer tools, print dialogs, permission prompts, and page overlays that may cover the content.
  4. Retry at 100% browser zoom.
  5. Confirm that Google Chrome and Oak Donut are updated.
  6. Test a shorter, ordinary webpage to determine whether the issue is page-specific.

Common capture limitations

Protected browser pages

Chrome blocks extensions from scripting or reliably capturing internal pages, the Chrome Web Store, browser settings, and certain protected surfaces. Oak Donut will report an error instead of pretending that a full capture succeeded.

Password-protected websites

Oak Donut can capture a normal webpage after you have signed in, provided the browser allows extension access on that origin. Authentication remains between you and the website. Oak Donut does not request, store, or transmit your password.

Blank, black, or incomplete output

Canvas, WebGL, protected video, embedded applications, hardware-accelerated layers, and app-shell designs can behave differently during browser screenshots. For a panel or embedded app that scrolls on its own, use area capture. Oak Donut performs a local blank-output check and rejects some clearly invalid captures, but visual review is still required.

Heroes, carousels, animation, and video

Oak Donut pauses common animations and monitors detected dynamic components during capture. A changing state can cause the capture to stop rather than combine inconsistent frames. A capture represents the currently visible carousel or hero state; it does not automatically document every hidden slide.

Infinite scroll and virtualized content

Pages that continuously append content or render only nearby rows may not have a stable full-page height. Oak Donut bounds page growth and may stop with an actionable error instead of creating an unlimited or misleading image.

Very large pages

Browsers and devices impose canvas and memory limits. Oak Donut checks output and temporary image-memory viability before and during capture. It may downscale an extremely large result or stop when a useful image cannot be produced safely.

Interrupted Site Batch jobs

Site Batch retains one metadata-only recovery checkpoint for up to 24 hours. Reopen Site Batch to resume remaining URLs, export completed/failed partial results, or discard and restart. Completed items are not recaptured during normal resume. Screenshot pixels are never placed in the checkpoint.

Oak Donut can retry an allowlisted transient capture failure once. It does not automatically retry authorization, browser permission, page-size, memory, or download/export failures.

Scrolling panels and embedded apps

Area capture stops with a support code, rather than saving a misleading image, when it cannot capture a panel exactly:

  • AREA_NOT_VISIBLE — part of the panel is off screen. Scroll or enlarge the window until the whole panel is visible.
  • AREA_TRANSFORMED — the page has scaled, rotated, or flipped the panel. Wait for any opening animation to finish, or capture the full page.
  • AREA_UNAVAILABLE — the panel closed or reloaded. Right-click it again.
  • FRAME_NOT_SUPPORTED — the panel is inside an app nested within another app, or one the page has scaled or rotated. Capture the full page, or open the app on its own page if it offers that.
  • PAGE_CHANGED — the app moved or changed during capture. Let it settle, then right-click the panel again.

Anything the surrounding page draws on top of an embedded app, such as a chat button, appears in the captured image. Automated WCAG preflight is not run on area captures.

Fixed and sticky elements

Oak Donut uses best-effort handling to reduce repeated floating headers and widgets. Complex elements that change position or size while scrolling can still repeat, disappear, or create a seam.

Files and downloads

Chrome controls the operating-system Downloads location. Oak Donut can choose a safe relative subfolder but cannot silently write to an arbitrary folder outside the browser’s configured Downloads directory.

A folder you choose in Site Batch is used as it is, whenever you chose it, and you are not asked about it. Otherwise a new installation saves to Downloads/Oak Donut, and an installation updated from an earlier version keeps saving to Downloads/Kapture IT, the folder it was already using, and asks once — in the popup and in Site Batch — whether to switch new captures to Downloads/Oak Donut, keep that folder, or use another. The update does not move your files, and nothing changes until you answer.

If Ask where to save each file is enabled, the browser can display one Save As dialog for each generated file.

Capture Reports and results evidence

When PNG + Capture Report PDF is selected, Oak Donut downloads the PNG and a one-page human-readable report containing a thumbnail, requested and final URL, page title, requested profile and actual measured viewport, capture time, output size, section count, automated findings, reviewer-note area, and SHA-256 fingerprint. Site Batch results CSV files contain equivalent per-URL technical evidence when available.

Capture Reports and results evidence do not certify the truth, legality, completeness, authenticity, or accessibility of the source website. Always review the image itself.

Accessibility preflight

Oak Donut’s WCAG-related checks are automated preflight checks. They can identify certain structural issues but cannot determine complete WCAG conformance. Manual testing by a knowledgeable reviewer remains necessary.

Privacy-safe diagnostics

Select Diagnostics in the extension popup to create an optional plain-text support report. The report is generated locally only after that action, opens a Save As prompt, and is not sent to Kalidonis LLC automatically. It contains the extension and browser versions, generic feature state, and up to 10 generic error codes from the current browser session.

When a capture or Site Batch operation fails, Oak Donut also displays a copyable support code such as CAPTURE_DENIED or PAGE_TOO_LARGE. The code is selected from the same privacy-safe allowlist and does not contain a page URL, page content, credential, or raw exception message.

The report does not contain screenshots, page URLs, page titles, page text, browsing history, filenames, discovered URLs, CSV contents, WCAG findings, credentials, license keys, or organization identifiers. Review the file before choosing whether to share it with support.

Oak Donut Pro

The supported Free plan includes a three-page Site Batch workflow with domain discovery, editable CSV selection, a first-item test capture, and local results. Oak Donut Pro is Coming Soon and is planned to raise batch limits and add versioned local and organization-managed CSS viewport profiles, selectable WCAG preflight controls, expanded explanations, and managed Chrome deployment. Viewport profiles do not emulate a complete device or browser. Pro is not currently available for purchase; final features, limits, pricing, and availability may change before launch.

Contact support

Submit a request through the Kalidonis LLC contact page. Include:

  • Oak Donut version;
  • Google Chrome version;
  • operating system;
  • the page URL, only if it is safe and non-confidential to share;
  • the displayed support code; and
  • steps that reproduce the issue.

You may instead attach the optional diagnostics file after reviewing it. A page URL is not required when the generic report is sufficient.

Do not send passwords, authentication tokens, payment information, or unredacted screenshots containing sensitive information. Support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis and does not include a guaranteed response time unless a separate agreement says otherwise.
